CERAMICS

A mix of Slipware techniques at Earthenware temperatures for expressive one-off pieces and simple glazed Stoneware for functional tableware. Aiming to create something fluid, contemporary and fresh from traditional processes whilst keeping the ‘freshness’ alive in the successive stages is my challenge.

PHOTOGRAPHY

I find collecting ‘Light’ very addictive – constantly fascinated with atmosphere, moments and moods. I find the ability to  capture these moments with a camera to be quite magical.
I've recently rediscovered Black & White film photography using trusty (and grainy) Ilford HP5 film and an old, cranky classic Nikon. Digitally - I've always enjoy mark making with fireworks in winter months - its these fluid marks I am trying to replicate in my slipware!

PRODUCT DESIGN

As an in-house Product Designer I have become expert at adding ‘value’ to raw materials through my unique and informed approach to product development. This perceived ‘value’ can be many things - desire, function, needs, trends - as well as the more obvious 'monetary' value. But what excites me and continues to keep me engaged with this creative profession is my love of materials and the ways we, as humans, have learnt to master them - from cutting edge technology to low-tech craftsmanship. Over my time as a product designer I have truly realised my responsibility, aiming to create long-lasting products for the home that grow with the family who have chosen to live with them.

Bio

I enjoy a variety of interests and trying to grow, cook & share good quality simple food is really important to me and my family.  I love Ceramic Design and also the presentation of home cooked food on this medium. In my free time I like to get away from the 3D computer screen and back to basics making Tableware on the potter’s wheel or wildly slip-decorating vessels in my workshop. I also enjoy photography, design history & 20th century ‘antiques’, automata & mechanical toy design, VW Transporters, comedy, home brewing and quality within all of the above. I have an extensive music library, but must admit to being a bit of a Vinyl geek. I love the outdoors; walking, cycling and water. My wife Emma and I got married in 2015 and our young son was my best man. We always seem to be knee-deep in home renovation projects!
